2010 – and Keep Our NHS Public North East is born in response to the true implications of the proposed Health and Social Care Bill. The events of yesteryear are a little hazy, but we know that the organisation was homegrown by a small group of local people who cared about the future of the NHS. A meeting was set up by Paul, with Jim updating on the parliamentary Bill. A connection was made with national KONP through Helen, who already had links with the national KONP organisation. Further meetings were planned – Martin offered to sort out the comms and spent the next four years or so collecting and disseminating information to a list of about 600. Gerard and Pete spoke at a public meeting at Newcastle University and, thereafter, meetings were held monthly at St.John’s Church Hall, in Grainger Street, Newcastle upon Tyne…..and, as they say, the rest is history!
